The traditional Christmas Day feast is full of rich and decadent food that should be revelled in. I feel the starter should then just wet your appetite for all the turkey and trimmings to come. There are plenty of ideas to choose from but making something that’s quick, easy and doesn’t take up much oven or fridge space are key factors that will make your day easier. Having a tapas-style starter is also a nice idea.
Smoked Salmon on Bread:
A tried and tested favourite in many houses. Plan ahead by baking the Oat & Seed Loaf the day before, cut into thin slices, layer with creme fraiche and smoked salmon.
Roasted Stuffed Dates with Bacon: These are simply beautiful little bites!! Using de-stoned dates, fill the centre of the dates with cottage cheese and roll in some streaky bacon/proscuitto/parma ham. Roast in the oven for 15 minutes or until crispy.
Garlic King Prawns:A really quick, easy and light starter that works great served with some oat bread to mop up the sauce or on top of some green salad. Melt garlic butter on a pan, add the prawns with tails removed. Lightly fry the prawns until they turn a nice golden colour, season with a squeeze of lemon juice and fresh black pepper before serving.
