Citrus Grilled Asparagus Plate

This Grilled Citrus Asparagus Plate is perfect as a side alongside any kind of meat. Whether your BBQ moves indoors or stays out in the sunshine, this dish will brighten up your plate.

I’ve used limes but swap in lemons if that is all that you have at home. Broccoli, green beans, cabbage or tomatoes are great alternatives for when asparagus season ends!

For more summer sides, try my Aubergine & Feta salad or Broccoli & Orange slaw.

Serves 4 as a side.

  • 30g hazelnuts
  • 1/2 lime zest and juice
  • salt and pepper
  • oil
  • 100g asparagus
  • 80g soft or cream cheese or ricotta
  1. Heat a grill pan on high or turn the grill function of your oven on.
  2. Place the hazelnuts on the pan or in a heatproof dish under the grill oven and remove when the skins begin to blister or the nuts begin to turn a caramel/brown on the outside.
  3. Remove the nuts from the pan.
  4. Prepare the asparagus spear by snapping the hard base off each. Season in a bowl with half the lime zest, juice, salt, pepper and 1 tsp of oil.
  5. Place the asparagus onto the pan or into the grill oven on a heatproof tray or dish. Cook for 5 minutes, turning regularly so you get an even char on all sides.
  6. Mix the remaining lime zest and juice with the cheese before spreading onto a plate. Arrange the asparagus on top and roughly chop the hazelnuts before sprinkling over the lot.
